Two Hundred More Jobs Headed to Tucson
Tucson AZ has just been selected by a publicly traded company — Stanley, Inc. (NYSE: SXE) — a leading provider of systems integration and professional services to the US federal government. Stanley, Inc. will be building and managing a secure passport production center in Tucson AZ for the U.S. Department of State. The company will immediately begin construction of the secure facility with production operations expected to begin in spring of 2008. Stanley will hire more than 150 full time and part time employees in the next 12-18 months.
TREO (Tucson Regional Economic Organization) helped entice this large company to Tucson and has been working with Stanley since 2006. In my opinion, this is just another of many great deals TREO has put together for the Tucson area, and I predict many more will follow in the coming years. TREO has done an impressive job getting companies to place facilities in Tucson, and has accomplished much for the city.
Having another couple hundred jobs (which sound like manufacturing jobs at that) coming to Tucson is great news! This also shows that many companies from around the world are viewing Tucson as a place to get valuable employees, government that will assist them, and the economics that make sense for the company to locate stores and facilities. My belief is that what we have been seeing for the last two years will continue, and more and more companies will be opening up in Tucson. Tucson is starting to gain a reputation as an amazing opportunity for companies to take advantage of.
The local real estate angle of this is simple. The more jobs in Tucson, the more people will come here to live and eventually buy a home. The bigger and more diverse your local economy is, the better the real estate market should be since people in most circumstances need to live within a reasonable distance of where they work.
