What Tucson Can Offer Canadians for a Second Home and Investment Opportunities
Looking to buy a second or winter home in Arizona? Think Phoenix is your only option? Want world-class desert landscapes, golf, and services? Think Tucson Arizona for all this. Many Canadians think that Phoenix is the only option if they want to purchase a property in Arizona for winter. While Phoenix does offer some opportunities, in my opinion, Tucson offers advantages Phoenix cannot touch. Tucson is a much smaller city than Phoenix. The population is just over one million, which is comparable in size and growth rate to Calgary, Alberta. Tucson has world-class golf year round. The Accenture World Match Play Championship draws a large crowd, and is a very prestigious tournament. Tucson is also home to the annual Gem Show each February, which brings in super-sized crowds every year. Tucson is home to spring training for the MLB, and is roughly a one-hour drive from the Mexican border for quick day trips into Mexico.
What else does Tucson Arizona offer for a second home destination? Tucson is situated at a higher altitude than Phoenix. As a result, it’s a few degrees cooler during the summer months. Many parts of Phoenix will regularly reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit every day during the summer months, whereas Tucson normally will only reach 105 or so. The Tucson area also presents a much more vibrant desert landscape than Phoenix. In Tucson you will see more trees, cacti (including the monumental saguaros), and wildlife than in our more well-known, larger city to the north. The desert here is truly much richer, and many Phoenix residents wish they had access to the desert life we enjoy here in Tucson. In terms of accessibility, Tucson has direct daily flights via Air Canada to and from Calgary, so you’re never more then 3.5 hours away from any business that you may need to fly back to attend.
For those looking to enjoy a second home or find an investment opportunity, Tucson is a perfect set-up for Canadians. With our dollar just about on par with Canada’s, and home prices at levels not seen in several years, many real estate opportunities exist for those looking to purchase in Arizona. Some homes start as low as $110K. Townhomes can be purchased for less. There is also a large selection of golf course properties and homes adjacent to natural desert areas.
