Sam Hughes
Sam Hughes is a very well known large neighborhood located in Tucson Arizona (AZ). Sam Hughes is a charismatic place with established homes, fashionable with young families. The schools are extremely well regarded, with home prices ranging from $300,000 to $750,000. Sam Hughes is in a constant state of renewal as new owners revitalize the historic buildings, and has been considered a Tucson treasure for many years. It is named after the school near the center of the area, which in turn was named in tribute of Sam Hughes who came to Tucson in 1858 and was an early advocate of a free public school structure.
In 1994 the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places, bound by Campbell to the west, Broadway to the south, Country Club to the east, and Speedway to the north, and is composed of 218 acres with 718 buildings. Of these buildings, 586, mostly residences, are considered historically significant and signify sixteen different architectural styles.
Today's residents take pleasure in the neighborhood because of its central location (well-situated to the University of Arizona), Himmel Park Library, and a diversity of original shops and unique services. It is recognized for its bike routes, recreational amenities, enjoyable areas for walking and jogging, and by-and-large quiet, settled surroundings.
